Persona

This is Megan Mulligan. She is a twenty-two year old college graduate. She is trying to adjust from her busy college schedule filled with club involvement and activities, to her now nine-to-five work day. She has a lot of free time that she wants to put to good use. Usually, she will work then come home and make dinner for herself. After dinner and on the weekends, she has too much free time and finds herself unfulfilled. She wants to go back to investing her time into multiple activities and feels that volunteer work would be a very rewarding way to do this.

“Now that I have free time I finally have the opportunity to contribute my time and cause positive change in my community.”

The problem statement
-Local organizations that rely on volunteers require more help from local citizens.

Target audience
-Those seeking a sense of fulfillment by donating their time to the community.

-Organizations looking to expand their volunteer base.
-Ages 16 and up

Target behavior
-We want users to come to our app/website when looking for volunteer opportunities

Core motivators
-Gamification: a points system based on hours volunteered to put towards discounts/etc.

Simplicity factors

-Setting up a personal account and establishing interests regarding volunteer work
-Establishing goals for volunteer work
-Ability to subscribe to favorite organizations

Behavior triggers

-Notifications of volunteer opportunities based on specified interests and previous volunteer work
-Reminders of upcoming events
-Updates on progress/points earned

Hypothesis:
-If we provide citizens with easy access to local volunteer opportunities and incentives through gamification to earn points through volunteering, they will volunteer more frequently.
-If we provide organizations with the ability to promote volunteer positions, then they will receive greater help performing their work in the area.
-If citizens are aware of local volunteer opportunities, they will be more likely to offer their time.
